The river is fishing well, there are fish coming up from the lake, and the October Caddis hatch is happening. Baetis hatches in the afternoons along with some Grannom Caddis are the predominant staples for fish along most of the river. The Octobers are coming off mainly around Dunsmuir. While you may dream of fishing a big Stimulator and getting topwater eats, this will happen mainly towards dark for now. For the most part fishing a dry-dropper rig with a large Chubby Chernobyl and dropping a black Perdigon, BP Weiss Nymph, Olive Hotspot, or Jigged Mercer Micro May will do the most work for you. Bring some dark Missing Links in #14-16 and some Chubby Chernobyls in #8, and Adams in #14 - 18. For the October pupae, Mercer's TB October Pupa is a good one, dead drift it or swing it. October is a great month to fish the Upper Sac!
