THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET AND
FISH CABO FLEET
Just an incredible fishing week from Cabo San Lucas with 100% of the
boats reporting fish caught. Sure sounds good, doesn't it? While
this is true the real story is there were only five boat fishing days
for the week, (100 days available) and while all of the boats did
catch a fish or 2, the report went like this: 1 striped marlin, 3
dorado, 6 yellowfin tuna and 1 wahoo, for a whopping total of 10 fish
in the mix. While sportfishing anglers are extraordinarily
optimistic individuals and every day brings a little something new to
the sport, the area is definitely at an ebb low for both charters and
catching and we can only hope for an improvement as we move into the
late spring.
Cabo Climate: Kind of a breezy week with westerly winds blowing 12
12-18 knots, but mostly sunny and clear days with temps from 57
nights to 86 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Definitely cooling on the Pacific side with temps at
the 70-71 degree ranges from the Finger Bank to Cabo Falso. The temp
break was running to the southeast at Cabo Falso to 74 degrees and
wrapping around Cabo San Lucas and into the Sea of Cortez, rising to
76 degrees by the Palmilla Ridge.
Best Fishing Area: None Reported.
Best Lure/Bait: None reported.
Live Bait Supply: Excellent, a mix of mackerel and caballitos.
