Is Spring Finally Here?
It seems that that signs of the long cold winter are finally subsiding and spring is here. After a good week of weather, water conditions are normalizing and fish are starting to bite more consistently in a few areas. Catalina is still slow and live squid is generally not available, San Clemente Island kicked out some good bass fishing but still no good signs of yellowtail. The OC and LA coast are still slow with very little action. The Coronado Islands started the week with dirty water but is cleaning up daily. The fishing hot spot this week was La Jolla, with several good scores of nice grade yellowtail being caught on spots a couple miles off the coast. Half day and 3/4 day boats from Seaforth Sportfishing have been catching a few, and private boaters with lots of patients and luck have been getting some too. One of the keys to catching these fish is to be patient, don't run around chasing bird schools all day. Pi ck a good area and concentrate on that and hope you get lucky enough that a spot pops up next to you to get bit on a surface iron or bait.
