Fishing conditions and Hatches: Poor to Fair. Well kids, it looks like the party is over for the next few days as the Daphnia has pretty much shut down the fishing. I've had my suspicions it was coming on for about a week as it was pretty low probabilty so many of those planted fish would leave perfect temperature water and depart the north end, but I didn't want to say the "D word" until I confirmed it with camera, fish finder and stomach pump. The fish are still there but they are eating Daphinia, not chironimids. Here is what you can do to hopefully still get a few fish. The biggest change is to stop stripping and midging near the bottom. The Daphnia is typically all through the water column so try different depths. The Daphnia moves with the currents so keep moving until you catch a fish and hopefully you will have found an area that has less Daphnia. Stripping is typically more effective than midging as you cover more area and it will ellict an aggression strike even though they are swimming through their food and aren't hunting for food. If all else fails drown your sorrow at the bar at Tom's Place or treat yourself to a new fly rod. You will feel much better! Ask for the Daphnia Discount.

Recommended Flies:
Blood Worms early then Optimidges in Red/Black or Purple next and Black or Gray/Black later in the day. Beadheads still necesssary where there is still some algae flecks but go with dubbed head if possible. Nothing magic required for streamers . Perfection Perch, Punk Perch, Matukas, Black Wooly Buggers and Hornbergs will all produce. Try fast and slow retrives to get that agression strike. Try slow twitch with leech pattern or add a small hare's Ear trailer to your streamer.
