http://www.cortezcharters.comCabo San Lucas has just provided another fabulously fun fishing week
for the anglers and for the first time in more than a year, we have
marlin counts that moved above the 100 fish levels. The "Gaviota IV,
with Captain Octavio Castillo, reported an excellent fishing week
that reflected 26 billfish released for the 7 days fished. The
"Gaviota VIII", skippered by Captain Juan Dominguez, reflected a 7
billfish release day on Monday and wound up the week with a total of
15 billfish released for 3 days fished. According to Roberto
Marquez, owner of Fish Cabo Fleett, the bite has escalated and is
still moving upwardHis boats averaged 3 billfish per day fished and
rounded out their catches with yellowfin tuna. He says that all of
the Pacific side areas are producing good billfish catches, from Cabo
Falso to Golden Gate and back to the Jaime Bank. The overall catch
report for a total of 41 combined fishing days reflected 112
stripers, (107 released) 1 wahoo, 15 yellowfin tuna and 87 dorado.
Cabo Climate: Mostly sunny, clear and warm, wonderful days with
temps from 63 nights to 86 daytime highs and light and variable
surface breezes.
Sea Conditions: It's been a great week for the anglers. On the
Pacific side, there is a temp break just southeast of the Jaime Bank
from 74 to 78 degrees with the warmer water wrapping Cabo and heading
into the Sea of Cortez and rising up to 79 by Los Frailes.
Best Fishing Area: Pacific side that included Cabo Falso, Cristobal
Ridge, Los Arcos, Todos Santos, Golden Gate and Jaime Bank.
Best Lure/Bait: Both worked very well with live bait having the edge
over the lures.
Live Bait Supply: A good week for caballitos.
