We started the year off with good fishing aboard the "Bloody Hook" with the Mark Kordus charter group from Rawlins, WY, with back to back days of 2 sailfish released. According to Captain Chiro Barrigan, they saw many sailfish on the 2nd day but the fish were unusually finicky and difficult to entice to the rigged baits. Additionally, they also missed a dorado on the first day that didn't stay hooked. According to Captain Temo Verboonen, the greenish tinted water is everywhere and while it is clean green, it's not the sparkling blue water that the billfish like to be in. Temo reported the fish are still close in, starting at about the 5 mile mark, but he also reports the fish are stubborn to bite. "The better bite seems to start at about noon and picks up a little with the passing of the day. The inshore fishing is very good right now with the sardines attracting the Sierra, Jack Cravelle, green jacks and the roosterfish. The better bite for the roosterfish has been at Troncone's sandy beach area, just north of Ixtapa. The in shore fishing has been completely opposite the offshore fishing with the better bite in the early hours and slowing in the later hours.

I/Z Climate: Mostly sunny and warm days with temps from 69 nights to 86 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: 80 degrees inshore and rising about 1.5 degrees to 81.5 offshore. Greenish tinted water throughout the area but cleaner and clearer waters the farther one moved offshore.

Best Fishing Area: The better bite was in the 5-12 mile area for the billfish.

Best Bait/Lure: The rigged baits were doing best for the billfish in the offshore areas. Live bait was best for the roosterfish and the inshore areas but small shiny silver spoons and small poppers were also working well for the Sierra and jacks.

Bait Supply: There was no bait problems for this area with good bait supplies available everyday.
