Cabo San Lucas Fishing Report

The striped marlin action picked up considerably this past week and was just short of a 90% catch rate for the first time in awhile. Interestingly, the bite returned to the Pacific side of the Baja peninsula and ranged from the Cabo Falso light house to Pozo Cota, with the better fishing closer to the beach. Right now, the most difficult situation for the Cabo boats is the unfortunate very slow business for charters and there just hasn't been too much change over the past year or so. We have just entered our third year with no new pricing for the sportfishers and nothing appears on the horizon unless fuel does something unexpectedly to force the upward trend. The overall combined catches for 8 days fished this past week reflected 7 Stripers released, 9 yellowfin tuna, 3 skipjack tuna and 1 Sierra.

Cabo Climate: Mostly cloudy during early week and changing to Sunny & warm days coming into the week's end. Nights are still cool, (down to 54 degrees) and up to 79 degrees for daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: From the Golden Gate Bank to Cabo San Lucas on the Pacific side and easterly from Cabo San Lucas to the 1150 Fathom Spot, the temps remain in the 69-70 degree temp zone.Outside the Golden Gate Bank, just 8-9 miles offshore, the temps drop to 61-62 degrees. There are scattered spots of cool water, in the 66 degree zone, from Cabo San Lucas to San Jose Del Cabo & out to about 7 miles or so. There is a green tint to the water on both sides of the peninsula.

Best Fishing Area: Back to the Pacific side from Cabo Falso to Pozo Cota.

Best Lure/Bait: Live bait was required for the billfish.

Live Bait Supply: Not reported.
