http://www.sportfishingreport.comThe big meltdown has started after a record setting snowfall year, reported Doug Neal at Almanor Fishing Adventures. "Seasonal creeks are flowing, and some are gushing" said Neal. "The west basin is the place to be. There are bait and fish holding at eight to nine feet along the peninsula's west side, from Bunell Point to Bailey Creek.
"The morning troll bite has been fair at best, and is better later in the day. Speedy Shiners and Luhr Jensen Needlefish have gotten the most action. With water clarity an issue, heavy application of bait scents are recommended.
"If you must fish the east shore, Lake Cove to the Dorado Inn has about four feet of clarity, and we managed a few rainbows and browns there on threaded crawlers. Areas to avoid include the A-Frame, Rec. #1, the entire east side of the peninsula, Spar Buoy, Big Springs, and Hamilton Branch.
"Insect hatches are showing signs of starting, but it's still smelt that are feeding the fish. Smelt will begin to spawn when temperatures push 42 to 44 degrees. Ripping white trolling flies or other smelt patterns are advised."
