While the inshore fishing continued to lead the Cabo fishing action, a few boats ventured offshore and managed to entice a few stripers to bite, reflecting a much improved catching week for the fleets. It was another week of widely varied water temperatures that warmed considerably from the previous week and seemed to encourage the bite on both sides of the peninsula. With exception to a single marlin taken aboard the Gaviota II at the Golden Gate, most all of the other fish were taken in the area from the Cabo Falso drop-off to Chileno, a distance that spans about 7-8 miles. The overall counts for the week for a combined total of 12 days fished reflected 3 stripers released, 1 wahoo aboard the "Gaviota III", 11 yellowtail, 4 skipjack 27 bonito and 84 Spanish mackerel, (Sierra).

Cabo Climate:
Mostly sunny, clear and warm days, with a few passing clouds and temps from 61 nights to 87 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions:
Mostly calm & favorable seas that moved up several notches in temperature. From the Golden Gate Bank and down to the Jaime Bank and wrapping Cabo to the Palmilla Ridge, the temps held at 72-73 degrees, rising to 74 degrees at Gorda Banks. Midway between Gorda Banks and Las Frailes, there was a plume of warmer water that shot up to 76 degrees, mushrooming north and south at about 15 miles offshore.

Best Fishing Area:
The billfish were scattered; 1 taken at Golden Gate Bank, 1 taken 15 miles south of Cabo and 1 taken outside Chileno. Most of the inshore fishing was in the Chileno area.

Best Lure/Bait:
The billfish were all taken with live caballitos. Yellowtail taken on yoyo and butterfly jigs, Sierra on hoochies, rapalas and live sardinas for those lucky enough to get them.

Live Bait Supply:
Good for the bigger bait, i.e., caballitos with only a few boats early enough to get the sardinas.
