Bass angling really picked up this past week, as many anglers reported double digit catches of both smallmouth and largemouth. Fly-lined plastics, spinnerbaits, and drop-shot rigs have all been working well on bass averaging 1.5 to 2 lbs.

Trout are still being caught on the surface, trolling rapalas, and other minnow imitations. There seemed to be no spot better than another as rainbows have been taken from the narrows, all the way to the dam.

The fluctuating water temps have the crappie and other pan fish hard to come by, with only a handful checked at the ramp. Catfish have yet to turn on as well. Bow fishing for carp has slowed a little, but has still been productive in the mornings in the backs of coves and stands of bulrush. As of now kayaks are allowed on the lake and should provide the plastic navy with some fine angling opportunities. There are now a dozen kayaks for rent at the Marina. Call 805-688-4040 for more information about rentals and quagga inspections for the kayaks.

Bank anglers found fish in the piers at Harveys and at Mohawk. With inflated worms and powerbait being the baits of choice. Another trout plant from Calaveras is slated for......
