The action on striped bass is still sizzling on the Feather River, reported local guide Kevin Brock. "We are still releasing 20 to 30 stripers per day or more, and have had several triple, quadruple, and even one quintuple hookup", said Brock. "Most are still schoolies, but we are seeing a few larger hens to 20 pounds, and heard of a 30-pounder this week.

"The stripers have been biting all day long, and we have been fishing mostly downstream from the Boyd's Pump area. We are catching our fish on live jumbo minnows and trolling plugs. The minnows are rigged on a size 1 Owner Mosquito hook on a 2.5-foot 10-pound test mono leader with one-half to one-ounce of weight, and trolled downstream.

"The average grade of fish is slightly larger on the trolled plugs, and they can be trolled upstream or downstream. This week's best trolling lure was a ghost white or rainbow trout-color Rapala X-Rap XR12, with a six-inch white plastic worm rigged as a trailer.

Brock continued, "The Sacramento River is fishable right now, but the large numbers of fish are not there yet. We have also heard there are some nice sturgeon jumping over on the Sacramento River. The Feather should fish well for several more weeks, and I expect the Sacramento River stripers should bite well into the month of May."
