Ranger 85 1.5 Day Trip

We had a great Channel Islands 1.5 Day trip this past weekend. With 28 anglers onboard, we set out to make bait at Santa Rosa Island and try for seabass and halibut to start our trip. Well, best laid plans...the wind was blowing, and the squid did not really cooperate. After a couple hours when the sun came up, we decided to head west, where the Ranger 85 lives, San Miguel Island. Again, we put forth effort for big game and attempted a couple halibut drifts. No action, so we decided to satisfy the jones we were all feeling by this time of the day and download on some quality SMI Rockfish. We made one last attempt at the halibut inside scenic Cuylers Harbor, and headed back to Santa Rosa. Our intent was to try and make squid and fish seabass again under what would hopefully be better conditions. Upon arriving back at Santa Rosa, and a little bit of searching around, we settled in on a huge spot of squid that wanted to float. We loaded all tanks and were successful in providing bait to a couple other boats in the area that morning as well (payback). Unfortunately, no luck on the seabass so we finished off by making one last stop to top off on some quality rockfish before heading home. All totaled, we ended up with 560 rockfish, 7 lingcod and a few miscellaneous whitefish etc. All onboard enjoyed themselves and put forth great effort to acquire such a catch. Thanks to all onboard for fishing hard the entire trip. We are looking forward to our future 1.5 and 2 Day Trips. With an influx of bait in the region, hopefully it will draw and hold a body of seabass for these extended trips. Looking forward to fishing with you onboard the Ranger 85. Capt. Frank
