Mike Lackey docked his Vagabond at Pt. Loma Sportfishing June 6 after an eight-day open-party trip with 22 passengers. They fished at The Rocks and on The Ridge to make a good catch of yellowtail and several other species.

"We had good variety," said Mike to dock reporter Bill Roecker. "The water was clean just about everywhere we fished, but still a bit cold on The Ridge at 62 degrees. It was 66 out at The Rocks."

World record holder (405-pound yellowfin tuna) Mike Livingston of Sunland was aboard.

"We had tough weather for about three days," he said. "The big fish were at Alijos Bank, where we spent about a day and a half. Then we moved in to The Ridge, where we saw good life and the yellowtail bit everything we threw at 'em. I told one guy it was a good time to get out the old jigs in your box that nothing will eat, because they'll bite it now. I fished weighted sardines. There were good sheephead biting and all the whitefish you wanted."

Ralph Wilson of Camarillo took ten minutes to bring in his first-place winning 41.2-pound yellowtail, his best one ever. He said it bit on a sardine and a 5/0 Eagle Claw hook on 40-pound Izorline XXX line. He used 65-pound Power Pro spectra on an Avet JX reel and a Calstar custom 670 rod.

John Corp of Niagara Falls, NY won second place for a 40.2-pound yellowtail. Ed Aboud of Phoenix got third place for a 43-pound olive grouper.
