"Excellent trip!" skipper Roy Rose said at Fisherman's Landing July 1, 2011, returning from a seven-day kids trip aboard Royal Polaris.

"Full limits of yellowtail for everyone," he added, "yellowfin up to 80 pounds, couple of bluefin, and a couple of grouper for the trip. I anchored once, and stayed there for three days of great fishing at Alijos. The kids love it out there. We had a blast." Eight-year old Anthony Mulay of San Luis Obispo won the junior jackpot with a 69-pound yellowfin. His eleven-year old brother Dominic caught a 50-pound yellowfin. Ten-year old Elijah Ding of Rancho Pala Verdes won second place with a 54-pound tuna. Fishing with his parents, Joshua Pancoe of Morrow Bay won third place with a 52.6-pound yellowfin. The family posed for a picture with Joshua's kite fish. Tom, his father, was thrilled to take his son on his first long range trip.

"I went on a long range trip 20 years ago," Tom said, "and I knew back then that I was going to take my son on a trip like that." There was a couple of standout yellowtail taken, barely missing the 50-pound mark. 19-year old Patrick Cunningham of Redondo Beach landed a 48.6-pound yellowtail with a fly-lined sardine. He used a 4/0 ringed Owner circle hook, 40-pound P-Line, an Avet LX two-speed reel, and an eight-foot Calstar rod.

13-year old Lillian Rose of San Diego caught a 48-pound yellowtail, and posed with her dad for a photo.

"I had three-quarters of the line back before it took it all back," Lillian said. "It just about spooled her," Roy added, and pointed out Lillian's battle scars. "Look at her hands! She's got blisters!"
