http://www.fishingvideos.comBrian Kiyohara brought American Angler home to Pt. Loma Sportfishing August 5 following a five-day trip to Guadalupe Island.
"We had good shots at boiling fish," he said, "but we had to work hard when there was no current. Then you had to use a good swimmer for bait. You had to take your time with the bait.
"When there was current you had to change your bait often. We didn't use 30-pound line, only 40 and 50-pound. This was the Chuck Constable Memorial Trip."
Dana Wickliffe of Bakersfield won first place with his 85.5-pound yellowfin that bit on a sardine pinned to a 2/0 Owner Flyliner hook. He used 40-pound Blackwater fluorocarbon, 40-pound Izorline and 65-pound Power Pro spectra on a Trinidad 40 N reel and a Calstar 765 L rod.
Juan Favela of Holtville won second place for a 71-pound tuna, and "Hurricane Bill" Goodwin of Livermore took third place for his 67-pound Guadalupe Island yellowfin tuna. He remarked that sharks took a few fish and a couple of his hookups broke 40-pound line.
