Rainbows, Browns and Brook Trout are all active at Iron Canyon Reservoir

Current Lake Conditions:
The fly fishing has been good! Use a boat, float tube or pontoon boat to get out on this quiet lake. Insect hatches have tapered off, but rainbow and browns will chase Clouser minnows and Lite Bright Buggers. Suspending nymphs like Zebra Midges, #16 Black Micro Mays, #16-18 Flashback PT nymphs will fool more than a few rainbows, browns and the occasional brook trout.

The Fly Shop's ? Tips:
You can attack this lake either one of two ways, Indicator and nymphs or sinking lines and streamers. The midge hatches are usually strong and fishing a Blood Midge with a Black Midge Pupa dropper is deadly. For those who want to cast and retrieve flies, Leeches and Bugger style flies work great. Clouser Minnows are a fantastic fly on Iron Canyon! Fishing a #16 BH PT Nymph on the end of a tapered leader attached to a floating line is my all time best way to find fish here. Once flies are cast, use a very slow retrieve, just move the line enough to stay tight to the fly and feel the thuds of the take! Don't set the hook. Instead, lift the fly rod as line is let out (you will have a pile of fly line from stripping in line as you fish the fly). Pull tight or pinch the line in your rod hand index finger once the cork of your fly rod grip is pointed above the horizon.
