http://www.fishingvideos.comAndy Cates docked the Red Rooster III at H&M Landing June 17 after four days to Cedros Island and offshore fishing areas. His 26 anglers experienced limit-style fishing at the islands.
"We had very good yellowtail fishing," he said, "mostly at the South End of Cedros. The offshore fishing was very slow and spotty."
John Chisholm won first place. John's parents, Eunice and Bruce Chisholm, are well-known on the docks. They're been regular long rangers for many years, and son John is a Chisholm off the old block. His halibut weighed 41.3 pounds.
"It bit on a blue and white Salas 6X Jr. iron," said John. "It felt plenty heavy, but it came right to the boat. I was bouncing the jig off the bottom, hoping for a halibut or a bigger yellowtail."
John said he used 40-pound P-Line on a Torium 30 reel and a Seeker 6470 Black Steel rod.
Todd Penwarden of Encinitas won second place for a 36-pound yellowtail. Allen Lemberg of San Diego wasd third, for a 34-pound yellow, and Seth Jacobsen of San Diego won fourth place (because there was no trolling jackpot on this trip) for a 32.8-pound yellowtail.
