Excel returned to Fisherman's Landing October 17, 2011 after a ten-day Braid Products trip. Many remarked on the size of wahoo caught as the crew unloaded the catch Monday morning. Most were in the 50 to 70-pound range. "These aren't skinnies," an onlooker said, "they're all fatties!" Excel owner-skipper Justin Fleck remarked on the catch: "This is what a traditional ten-day trip looks like. We had a lot of variety. Tuna, dorado, big wahoo, grouper, pargo, dogtooth snapper, and very good yellowtail fishing. It was a great trip, the guys had a blast."

Ryan Christianson of San Diego took first places with a 106.6-pound Alijos yellowfin. Ryan fished a chunk on a 7/0 Super Mutu Owner hook, 60-pound Shimano fluorocarbon wind-on leader, 100-pound Izorline Spectra, a Tiagra 16 reel, and a Calstar 765 H rod. It was a 45-minute fight. "It kicked my butt," Ryan said, "but I doubled my previous best."

Fountain Valley native Chris Barth was second for a 104-pound tuna. Chris used a 6/0 Owner Gorilla circle hook, 40-pound Seaguar fluorocarbon wind-on leader, an Avet JX two-speed reel, and a Calstar 700 M rod. Xavier Vega, of Oxnard, won third with a 112.4-pound gulf grouper.
