While Roecker was shooting the day's winners, John Rudek of LA arrived on the Sea Adventure 80 with skipper Scott McDaniels after two days of fishing south of San Diego for rockfish and yellowtail. Rudek had an odd rockfish with spines and bumps aplenty. He said the anglers called it a warthog and that the record was 12 pounds, and he wanted an official weight if it beat the mark. It was weighed on the Fisherman's Processing scales at 10.2 pounds, and went home for dinner with Rudek.
