The trip returned with skipper Frank LoPreste to Fisherman's Landing on October 31 with a good catch of yellowtail and a mix of tuna, wahoo and bottomfish. Three good-sized wahoo took the jackpots.
Eric Sandquist of San Rafael won first place for a 60-pound wahoo that ate his sardine on a 4/0 Owner Gorilla hook and 40-pound Seaguar Premier fluorocarbon leader. He said he fished with 30-pound Izorline on a Newell 332 reel and a Calstar 800 L rod.
Willy Leung of San Francisco won second place for a 52.8-pound skinny he got with a home-made red and silver bomb on 40-pound line. Bob Brister of Wellington, NV won third place for a 47-pound wahoo that bit on a Salas 6X Jr. jig in pink and black on 50-pound line.
"I missed the big fish by one day," remarked LoPreste. "But I'll be going back after next trip."
