http://www.lakecuyamaca.org/lastweek.htmThe birds are arriving (flying in) as part of their winter migration and the fish are arriving in tanker trucks. On Monday Nov. 21st. "Jess Ranch" of Apple Valley delivered 1,200 pounds of trout including "trophy trout" up to 9 pounds....a 7 pounder came out of the Lake yesterday. Mt .Lassen added another 1,000 pounds ( 500 pounds of which were in the 3 to 8 pound range) on Nov. 22nd. and DFG (later that same day) dropped an additional 1,000 pounds of state stockers. Thanksgiving's regular crowd of anglers failed to show due to the amount of turkey being consumed and football games to watch....that's my guess. But the rest of the days during last week were rewarding for the anglers even though there was a mixture of weather conditions.
The Florida strain large mouth bass have changed their nutritional diet. Instead of feeding mostly on the smaller DFG trout, they are concentrating their culinary interests on the local crawdads....some stuffed full, which also means that the bass are in shallow water right now. The Osprey's are the fishing kings around the Lake (from the air).....doing better than the Bald Eagle and the Cormorants.....fun to watch. More folks are taking advantage of the "Off Season Specials" with the sleeping cabins and the motorboat rentals in the lead as far as popularity is concerned.....the following are some notable catches from the previous week.......
***David Duff of Chula Vista caught an 8 pound 8 ounce trout off the boat launch dock using a mini-jig on 11-22-2011. ***Carol and Kody Crump of Yuma, Arizona caught a 9 pound trout on rainbow power bait at the dock and ***Kyle Bush and Chad Findle caught 10 trout weighing in at 10 pounds with the largest tipping the scales at 2 pounds. ***On 11-23-2011 Barrett Talbot of San Carlos brought in a 5 pound 2 ounce trout at the north finger jetty on orange power bait. ***On 11-25-2011 Andrew Tsui of San Diego caught 3 trout weighing 6 pounds total with the largest measuring 18 inches long .....all on lures at the Lone Pine Tree.....

The 9th was a long day for Tim Alpers and his trout delivery. He loaded his tanks at 4:00 a.m. and started out from the Eastern Sierra. At 3:00 p.m. he gave us a call from Temecula to let us know that he ran into stop-and-go traffic on the 15 up in the L.A. area..... and experienced some mechanical problems...imagine that! By 4:30 p.m. he was at Lake Cuyamaca. You would think that the man would be tired. A......
