The big fish was a whopper of 326.8 pounds. That yellowfin tuna was caught by Dave Berutich of Laguna Hills on a boat rig with a flying fish under the kite. The boat's kite outfit featured a 10/0 Mustad 7691 hook and 130-pound Line One spectra on an Avet 50 SW reel and a Super Seeker 6463 XXXH rod. "He was a bad fish, crazy," remarked Dave to dock reporter Bill Roecker. "He went out for a long time, and then down. He came to the boat hot after an hour and 45 minutes. We got him up on the starboard stern corner. He's my best fish ever. The best one before this one was a 272-pounder. I never enter the jackpot. That's how I catch these big ones."
First-place winner Gary Arndt of Juliaetta, ID caught a 211.8-pound tuna with a mackerel on a 16/0 Mustad 7691 hook. He used 130-pound Line One spectra on an Avet 50 reel and a Calstar 7465 H rod, and fought the fish for an hour and a half.
