Report Date:

The Butte County Fish and Game Commission held its quarterly meeting Tuesday night in Paradise. Agenda items included a warden's report, with local DFG wardens Chad Alexander and Tyson Hulse in attendance. They reported on a recent high-profile operation by Hulse, who apprehended suspected "double-trippers" with 108 ducks during the final weekend of hunting season. Hulse thanked the commissioners for their recent purchase of high-quality optical equipment which helped immensely in the surveillance and capture of the suspects.

Due to the flurry of wet weather, the final week of duck season was quite busy, with many hunters going afield who had not been out in over a month. Another local warden, Josh Brennan also had several successful deer cases.

The new class at the DFG's Warden Academy at Butte College convened with 44 cadets. If all cadets successfully complete the academy, it will come close to filling all current warden vacancies in the state.

The commissioners also formalized the 2012-13 financial grants as follows: Barry Kirshner Wildlife Foundation- $1700; Bidwell Wildlife Rehab Center- $3000; California Urban Streams Alliance- $800; Lake Oroville Florida-Strain Bass Project- $2000; Chico Creek Nature Center- $952; Gridley Kid's Fishing Day- $2000; Chico Kids Fishing Day- $2000; Oroville Kids Fishing Day- $2500; Paradise Kids Fishing Day- $1200; Snow Goose Festival- $1000; Troop 2 Chico Boy Scouts- $1000.

The panel's next meeting will be held April 2 in Chico.
