GENERAL CONDITIONS
It's officially summer and the weather has been spectacular! However, despite the great weather, fishing has slowed down and we're waiting for the water to warm up just a little more before the catfish and bass start biting. Our last trout plant was on June 14 and since then we have been planting catfish. This past week has been quite slow due to the transition of the water temperature. Water clarity has been great this last week with about a 6 foot visibility. However, the wind may be a problem in the later afternoon. Water level is about 10 feet from spillway, but we are losing water daily due to construction on the west trail here at the marina. We will still be renting out boats. We received over 30,000 lbs of trout in Lake Chabot throughout the year, and so far we have planted a little over 1,500 pounds of catfish for summer. When you bring in your big fish we will take your picture and give you a "Lake Chabot Whopper Club" button. If you catch a whopper over 8 pounds you will also receive a Lake Chabot whopper mug. The 4th of July is this week! Instead of closing at 6pm on Wednesday, we will be closing at 7! So come out and celebrate our country with your family and loved ones! We will be renting boats, so make sure to arrive early as to make sure you're able to get one! It is expected to be very busy here and all of our boats are on a first-come first-serve basis.

July 7th is also free fishing day. From 6am-10pm, you can fish here at Lake Chabot for absolutely free! That's right; you heard me, no license and no permit! Come take advantage of this great offer by getting here early and basking in the sunshine while you fish! The fishing has been picking up so there is no excuse for all you anglers to not come!

TROUT
Trout fishing is extremely slow right now. The lake has warmed up and all the trout have moved deeper into the water. With some luck you might be able to pull a few out, but it's definitely the season for catfish now. If fishing for trout, it's best to go to the clearest parts of the lake which are The Dam and Half Moon Bay area. Make sure to troll at least 15+ feet down from the surface. The best bait to use is a jointed Rapala (J-7) Firetiger Rainbow Trout pattern and pink Mira Shad with some weights in front of the lure. Drift fishing is another way to pull out trout in front of the island and Half Moon Bay, using PowerBait/PowerEggs or night crawlers. When trolling for trout, be careful with the anglers fishing on the shoreline. We had our last trout plant Tuesday June 12th and since then have been planting catfish.

BASS
Attention all anglers! Bass fishing has been on the rise! Bass are currently in post-spawn mode, so they are near the shoreline, about 10-15 feet deep. If you will be fishing for bass, they are hitting mostly in the early mornings and evenings mostly on plastics, jigs, and hulagrubs. Most of the anglers are throwing Senkos, drop shots, and Brush Hogs to get the fish to come out from their deep, off-shoreline structure. Although no whoppers were reported this week, they are out there and they're getting hungry! Livewells can be provided upon request thanks to Walton's Pond. Please practice catch & release for bass, as they are not stocked into the lake and their population depends on you!

CATFISH
It's catfish season! The water temperature has been steadily increasing as well as the amount of catfish being caught. So far this year we have planted 1,500 of catfish into Lake Chabot. Although no whoppers were reported this week, anglers have been returning with smaller catfish, and it's only a matter of time before people start returning with their limits! Typically around this time catfish are going to be located by Raccoon Point and anglers are using mackerel, anchovies, and chicken liver for bait. Our last catfish plant was 500 pounds on July 3rd over by coots landing.

WHOPPERS
No whoppers were reported this past week.
