The International Angler has changed its appearance to an updated, slick magazine. It's published by the International Game fish Association and comes to members. The new issue, for July/August, posts some interesting new records, and also features an article about how to improve your Catch-&-Release practices.

An all-tackle record was scored by Craig T. Ito at the Hurricane Bank on January 11, 2011. It weighed an official 17 pounds, one ounce. The captain's name was listed as Roger A. Rose, a gentleman better known to long rangers as Roy Rose, long-time skipper of the Royal Polaris. Ito caught his whopper while flylining for tuna. The giant whitefish bit on a sardine on a 6/0 ringed Owner Super Mutu hook tied to 50-pound blue Izorline and 65-pound Power Pro spectra. He fished with an Avet HX 6-3 reel and a Calstar 800 XH tied up by Taka Tanaka.

The IGFA posted a new all-tackle record for escolar (Lepidocibium flavobrunneum) at 173 pounds, 12 ounces, caught by Emil Terry September 28, 2011 off Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands. This fish sometimes appears as an incidental catch during the summer tuna season near San Diego.

A leopard shark caught in San Diego Bay December 31, 2011 has also made the all-tackle list. The 44-pound, seven-ounce shark was caught by Maria de la Luz Johnson.
