Report Date:
http://www.cortezcharters.comFrom a fishing perspective the week was close to a washout with the several rainy days that started on Monday and continued through Thursday night. While the rains were much needed, it truly put a damper on the sportfishing operations throughout the lower Los Cabos area and all along the Eastern Pacific and the weather break begins on Friday, with a return to good weather for the weekend. At least Mother Nature kept it all during the week days and saved the weekends for fishing. Guess that's the way its supposed to be? The combined fish counts for a total of 15 days fished reflected 6 stripers released, 1 sailfish released, 6 yellowfin tuna and 38 dorado.
Cabo Climate: 4 straight days and nights of rain will turn the area into a desert bloomfest in very short order. Lots of work for the cleanup crews throughout the city but that's normal and they handle it very well these days. I don't know how much rain fell but would suppose it was more than a couple of inches and Wednesday was a real down-pour day for the Cabo area. Temps were cooler with the cloud cover and rain and ranged from 74 nights to 92 daytime highs and lots of humidity.
Sea Conditions: Oddly, the area has remained very calm throughout the entire rainy periods with only light and variable surface breezes. Sea temps remained stable and good and ranged from 81 at the Folden Gate Bank, rising to 85 at the Jaime Bank, both on the Pacific side and from Cabo to Gorda Banks, rising slowly to 86-87 degrees.
Best Fishing Area: The Pacific side was the best for the fishing during the first couple of days but no boats fished for 4 straight days.
Best Lure/Bait: Live bait was best for the billfish and dorado but some good catches were also made on the aritificials, too, especially for the dorado.
Live Bait Supply: During the early week it was good but no report for the past 4 days. The demand for live bait was severely diminished for most of the week due to adverse weather conditions and it should be very good for the weekend.
