Both species and been scattered from 1' to 20' in most main lake areas. Look for boiling fish in the mornings as there have been shad on or near the surface.

The high air temps seems to have spurred the Crappie bite, as several anglers reported limit or near limit action in the narrows and in the river area on spinners and mini-jigs. Please be aware that only electric motors are allowed past the buoy lines.
Catish slowed a bit but some nice kitties in the 3 to 5 lbs. range havee been coming out of Johnsons' and Clarks'. Cut mackerel is the bait of choice for the kitties. Trout action is still on the slow side, those who targeted the 'bows were averaging about 1 per rod drifting worms by the dam. Carp still all over the top early in front of Clarks' and the dam area, and the backs of coves later in the day.

The hot weather has helped the previously slow bass bite, as most anglers were able to scratch out limits. Both largies and smallies were taking a variety of baits, from top water to jigs at 20'. Catfish did seem to taper off just a bit, but overall action was good on cut mackerel just about anywhere on the lake. Catfish once again get top billing, with kitties up to 10 lbs. being weighed in at the marina last week. Johnson's Bay, Drakes' cove and Sweetwater all produce limit or near limit action on cut mackerel, dough baits and chicken liver. Bass fishing was a bit tougher, but limits can still be scratched. Drop shot, jigs, creatures, cranks and blades all took fish. The early top water bite has subsided as of late, but should return when the bait gets......
