http://www.cortezcharters.comWhen you're an angler from Texas, I guess it's just part of the territory to catch big fish. It just kinda goes with the size of the State. Angler John Davis, from the great state of Texas, landed the fleet's largest fish taken this year. a 500 lb. blue marlin, fishing aboard the "GAVIOTA IV", skippered by Captain Christian Lopez. This fine trophy would have probably been worth about a million, maybe two or more, in the up-coming Bisbee Tournament next month, but still, it's a very special lifetime catch that was taken on a trolling ocelot, using 80 lb. mono and requiring a short 30 minutes to land the fish. Adding to the day's catch was a single dorado for dinner and a single yellowfin tuna, perfect for a pre-dinner sushi tray. The fleet only fished a total of 3 days this past week and reflected the 1 big blue marlin, 1 sailfish released and 3 dorado with 3 yellowfin tuna. All in all, it was good fishing but the rains interfered with some of the fishing days. (I don't know what it is about anglers that keeps them on the beach on rainy days with no wind and flat-calm seas?)
Cabo Climate: Another week of some good rain for the area but the anglers sure don't like it and just won't go fishing. Don't know why? The fish are wet and the rain cools off the area considerably.
Sea Conditions: Really good on both sides of the peninsula but the best fishing remains from out to the south of Cabo and around to the Pacific side, with very good sea conditions and temps that ranged from 82-84 on the Pacific side and rising to 85-87 from Cabo San Lucas to the Gorda Banks and into the Sea of Cortez.
Best Fishing Area: The Pacific side produced all of the fish for the week, albeit, there were only three trips taken.
Best Fishing Area: The Pacific side was surely best and the big blue marlin was taken at the San Cristobal Ridge.
Best Bait/Lure: The blue was taken on an artificial and the sailfish was taken on a live bait.
Live Bait Supply: Remains good for the few boats fishing the area.
