Report Date:
http://www.cortezcharters.comHurricane Paul left plenty of water throughout the Los Cabos area, (2 to 3 inches) causing the closure of the Port of Cabo for a single day on Tuesday, October 16th, as it moved on above Magdalena Bay and made landfall and diminishing to a tropical storm and will likely be declared "dead" by Thursday. Earlier in the week was another trophy sized blue marlin taken aboard the sportfisher, "Quien Sabe", skippered by Captain Lino, that tilted the scales at 717 lbs. It was taken about 7 miles south of the Light House by 4 anglers working the fish in tandem, John & Bob Weathers, Keith Hicks and Luke Keiser, all taking a part in the catch. The Bob Cahan charter group from San Diego, fishing aboard the Delta Tango II, landed limits of dorado on their first day's fishing on the Pacific side of Cabo and having enough dorado fun, the group fished their 2nd day on the Sea of Cortez side of Cabo where Mr. Cahan hooked & landed a 400 lb. blue marlin that followed a 4-plus hour battle and completing one of his "bucket list" wishes. Overall fish counts for a total of 23 days reflected 2 blue marlin, 6 stripers, 2 sailfish, 1 yellowfin tuna and 164 dorado.
Cabo Climate: Following the rains the weather turned to lots of sunshine and warm days with temps from 66 nights to 90 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: A residual swell on the Pacific side from the Passing of Hurricane Paul but spread far enough apart to not hamper the fishing effort. Temps on the Pacific side remained stable at 84-86 degrees and pretty much remained in that range on the Sea of Cortez side.
Best Fishing Area: Again, the Pacific side takes the top honors with 99% of the boats opting to fishing the Pacific side. Most of the dorado were taken with 3-5 miles of the coastline from Cabo Falso to Pozo de Cota.
Best Lure/Bait: The bigger artificials for the blues, live bait for the sailfish and stripers. Lures worked very well for dorado using the live bait drop backs for additional hookups.
Live Bait Supply: Remained pretty good for the most part with caballitos being the primary live bait available.
