According to Captain Temo Verboonen, the area is rapidly moving into the high season for fishing and hopefully, for anglers, too, following the effects of Hurricane Paul. The ocean has finally calmed and the fishing has improved by the day and the boats getting out are reporting excellent sailfish action and many trophy sized dorado in the 50 lb. range. Right now, almost everything begins at about 14 miles from the Bay as the water changes from a greenish, off color tint to deep blue, (the kind of water the fish prefer) and with sea temps that should hold the fish on location. The inshore action is producing quality sized roosterfish along the sandy beaches in front of Petatlan, to the south of Zihuatanejo Bay.

IZ Climate: Pleasant evenings and warm days that ranged from 71 nights to 92 daytime highs and partly cloudy skies with intermittent sunshine periods.

Sea Conditions: Tremendously improved with very little swell and temps that are stable in the 85-86 degree ranges, accompanied by light and variable surface breezes in the 5-10 mph range. Off colored water extends a ways offshore but clears perfectly at just under 14 miles.

Best Fishing Area: Starting at the clear and blue water, just under 14 miles from the Bay.

Best Lure/Bait: The rigged baits are working very well for the sailfish and the dorado. Live bait is working well for the Roosterfish.

Bait Supply: Remains plentiful for both, live bait and fresh rigging baits.
