http://www.fishingvideos.comBrian Kiyohara docked American Angler at Pt. Loma Sportfishing December 6 after a 12-day Seeker trip with Pat Doyle as chartermaster and 21 anglers aboard. It was Doyle's first trip on the boat and he liked it. "The American Angler has the best crew I've fished with," he remarked to dock reporter Bill Roecker. The trip produced an excellent catch of yellowfin, including two cows that were kite-caught and ineligible for the jackpot.
Herb Steinberg of Santa Monica got the biggest, a 224-pounder, after an hour-long fight. His first cow came on a sardine and a 6/0 circle hook under the kite, with the boat's rig, featuring 130-pound mono and spectra on an Avet 50 reel and a six-foot Calstar rod. "I'm 71," said Herb. "It was tiring. My best fish before was a 185."
Terry Snell of Big Bear Lake got the other cow, a 221-pounder, on another boat rig that had a sardine rig on an Avet 80 three-speed reel and a six and a half-foot Calstar rod. He said it was his first cow and that his previous best tuna was a 155-pounder, caught on the same boat.
John Lopez, a San Diego native, won first place for a 161-pound tuna. He said it bit a sardine on a 5/0 ringed Owner Super Mutu hook and 130-pound Blackwater fluorocarbon tied to 130-pound Izorline spectra. He fished with an Avet 50 reel and a Super Seeker 2 X 4 rod wrapped by M&M.
Jason Eggert of Pleasanton won second place for a 155-pounder, and Daryl Willis of San Diego took third for a 154-pound yellowfin tuna.
