The Crappie bite has tailed off slightly at Lake Cachuma & the Trout fishing is only fair

The wide open Crappie bite tailed off by the weekend, probably because of the fishing pressure and the cooler days. The Narrows is still the best place to fish for the slabs. Trolling Rapapla CD5's and CD7's were the best baits to use. Drifting and anchoring using tubes and feather jigs tipped with crappie nibbles or a mealworm succeeded more ofter than not.

Trout fishing was fair at best although on Saturday there were some good catches made from the shore on nightcrawlers. Some anglers did not hit the narrows for the slabs and they had some good action on trolled minnow imitations an d spoons.

Bow fishing has been good at times in both the early morning hours and late afternoon hours. Those Carp being caught were of the extra large grade. Bass fishing has steadily improved as the water slowly warms. Fish have been reported anywhere from 2' to 20' and are biting a wide variety of bait. A handful of Catfish also came in, but generally the kitties have been no-shows.
