http://www.lakesabrinaboatlanding.comMother Nature is still in the news at the Lake - looks like we may have gotten a few more flurries in the backcountry -looked like it dumping up there - but it sure looks like it is melting fast. Should have some good weather for you all down in Bishop for Mule Days. Yup, that's this weekend.
Catching continues to be great with lots of limits coming out of the Lake. During midday, bait fishing (PowerBait, Salmon Eggs & NightCrawlers) is doing a bit better than lure fishing (Red & Gold Thomas Buoyants, Super Dupers or KastMasters). Lures are working in the morning and evenings. Four-wheeling to that back Lake is getting a more & more challenging.
Southern California Edison completed the work on the dam that took the Lake down and the additional Edison work needed can be completed with water on the dam - unfortunately, there are other forces at work that may keep the Lake down for a bit longer.
One of the more amusing stories we heard about why the Lake is so low was pretty darn entertaining - "They piled up all the rocks in the bottom of the Lake to stop the creek and those cars down there are the workers."
Still a little on the cool side up at the Lake - it's gonna be a bit on the breezy side Tuesday & Wednesday with temps in the low 60's with the lows in the low 30's - but it might seem a bit cooler with that breeze. Thursday looks like the temps may dip into the low 50's, but come back up for the Mule Days Weekend. You can check www.weather.gov and enter ASPENDELL, CA on the site and it will give you a fairly good hint at the weather or check in with Howard at www.MammothWeather.com.
Looks like all the campgrounds should be up and running for the Mule Days Weekend.
Don't forget the BUG JUICE -the skeeters are out and they are BIG - we're hoping this cold weather will eradicate the big ones so we can get to the little ones and then none at all - Remember when using the bug juice and SANITIZER you need to really wash your hands before fishing - then rub some Salmon Egg juice, worm dirt or Anglers Bros Trout attractant to take that smell off. Also, remember your polarized dark glasses and sunscreen.
