http://www.fishingvideos.comNorm Kagawa docked his Shogun at Fisherman's landing June 28 after a five-day trip that found good fishing at Cedros Island. The boat's report for June 27 read: "Our final day was spent fishing offshore looking for a school fish that would like to cooperate and that is what we found. After going through several kelps loaded with micro -yellowtail, Captain Norm found a meter mark that put us in a drift that lasted about 3 hours, and allowed us to get a few handfuls of bluefin tuna and a lone albacore.
"All of the fish were in the 20 to 30-pound range and were eager to chew at first but waned into a steady pick. Though the drift we were in awe of the aerial displays the bluefin put on for us, but that awe turned into frustration, as they refused to nibble on anything with a hook in it.
"We found all the kelp paddies of any decent size to be absolutely jugged with the micro-yellowtail (which were released) and when I say micro, I mean the larger yellows were pushing maybe five pounds. Today marks that last day of our Catchy Tackle 5 day trip and I would like to thank each angler that fished with us on this trip as they were all a bunch of very cool and laid back batch of gentlemen.
"Wayne Martin and John Grindley of Catchy Tackle came aboard this trip ready for this season's wahoo fishing with some very neat looking gold plated Sea Strike 33 jigs that I am sure will take more than its share of wahoo this season. The gold plated Catchy Tackle Sea Strike 33s will be in a tackle store near you in the very near future."
Rick Jones of Medford, OR won first and second places in the jackpot, for bluefin of 41 and 35 pounds. He said he fished a sardine on a 2/0 Mustad hook tied to 40-pound maxima line on a Penn 4/0 reel and a Penn Californian six-foot rod.
Tom Jenkins Jr. of Riverside was third, for a 33-pound yellowtail he bagged with his spinning outfit.
"I got plenty more with that rig," he said. He used a sardine on a 4/0 Hayabusa hook, with 30-pound fluorocarbon leader and 50-pound Spectra on a Stella SP 2000 reel and a Seeker G670 7S rod.
The two were joined in a photo lineup by 13-year-old Alec Robbie of Trabuco Canyon and his 32-pound yellowtail. Alec said will start ninth grade next fall at Tesoro High, where he hopes to play football and baseball.
