The annual kid's trip aboard Royal Polaris returned to Fisherman's Landing June 29 after five days with skipper Roy Rose.

"Most of the kids were from eight to 12 years old," said Rose. "There were 18 kids aboard, and they did very well. We fished offshore for bluefin, and spent a couple of days at Cedros fishing for a nice grade of yellowtail, then spent the last day offshore again fishing on a mix of tuna."

The Royal Polaris report for June 26 read, "?Ķonly one word could describe the weather today; outstanding! Weather here at Cedros Island is just perfect, a light breeze, flat seas, clear skies, and all the sunshine any one could ask for. Today was a potluck day. We caught Halibut, White Sea Bass, Calico Bass, and of course Yellowtail.

"The lucky anglers today were Adam Louchios, Pete Kozel, and David Wright. Adam and Pete both caught Sea Bass over the 40-pound mark, with Adam going over 45 pounds. David Wright caught the only Halibut today, but there is still tomorrow. Most of the Yellowtail were in the 22 to 25-pound range, with a few smaller ones. We made bait, had a great dinner, and we will try our luck again tomorrow at Cedros."

Adam Louchios of Laguna Niguel won the kid's jackpot. Adam is nine, and used a sardine and a slip sinker to bait a 47-pound white seabass. He goes to Carden Academy.

Bradley Gaudy of Rancho Cucamonga won second and third places. He's 11, and goes to Ontario Christian. He got his 34 and 33-pound bluefin tuna with sardines.

The adult jackpot also had a white seabass for first place. Pete Kozel of Novato bagged a 43-pound "biscuit."

Chris Luchios (Adam's dad) won second place for a 35-pound bluefin, and Dave Wright of Upland won third place for a 34-pound bluefin tuna.
