Water Level: The water level is slightly above full capacity.
Water Clarity: The water clarity is optimal at about 15' in most areas.
The heat is definitely on this week. There has been very little action this week. Striped Bass have been spotted but they were not caught. Catfish are coming on hard if you can take the heat. Black Bass are hitting small plastic lures such as flukes, Senkos, and Frogs. Smallmouth fishing is getting better. They are hitting jerk bait, spinner bait, crappie jigs and Rapalas. Crappie fishing has slowed but they are reacting to crappie jigs, Road Runners, lures with curley tailed grub trailers and Shad imitation lures.
On June 26th Mt. Lassen planted 750 lbs. of Catfish.

It appears that the Smallmouth Bass are becoming more active. While trolling a Panther Martin Spinner about 10 to 15 ft. below the surface I caught 2 Samllmouth, including one that weighed 2 lbs. 2 oz. Another good sized Smallmouth chased the spinner to the side of the boat, but wouldn't take it. The fish were in the Heron Bay area, at about 20 to 35 ft. in the water column.
I also caught 2 decent Rainbow Trout, using the same lure at the same depth. I think the trick was to "match the hatch" and be in clear water. We were trolling at 1.8 to 2.0 mph. I would definitely look for Smallmouth Bass in the open spots of Heron Bay. It is best to look around boulders and structure, as I believe they are in their post spawn mode.

Abby Lev and I went looking for Smallmouth Bass today but struggled due to lack of cloud cover as well as intense sunshine and heat. We caught 4 Smallmouth Bass in Heron Bay near points and open flats near rocks and ledges. Water clarity was excellent but the fish were scattered and the hits few & far between. Surface temperatures reached 76 degrees. The fish were 10 to 15 ft. below the surface in a 25' water column. They were caught on Panther Martins, trolled 10 to 15 ft. below the surface. I think the Samllmouth bite will improve with more temperate conditions. With the warmer temperatures Anglers might do better going for Catfish or Largemouth Bass (the later with plastic worms). Nonetheless, the high lake level and extreme water clarity bodes well for a very good fishing season season ahead.
Best regards
