Required at Overton and Key Pittman Wildlife Management Areas

Hunters hoping to spend opening day of the 2013 duck and goose seasons at Key Pittman Wildlife Management Area (WMA), or the first two hunt days of those seasons at Overton WMA, must first obtain a reservation. Those reservations are available only through a drawing process utilizing mail-in applications that are due no later than 5 p.m. September 11. Hunters must submit their request using the official paper application available at the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) offices in Las Vegas or Henderson or online at www.ndow.org. Applications must be sent through a postal service to the NDOW Headquarters Office at 1100 Valley Road, Reno, NV 89512. A public drawing will be held at 10 a.m. September 25 at the NDOW Las Vegas office. Successful applicants will be notified by mail.

Beginning this year, hunters applying for reservations at Overton WMA will be permitted to draw only one reservation through the mail-in application process unless blinds are undersubscribed during the initial drawing. Another regulation change will allow successful reservation holders to substitute one person of a hunt party, but the substitute must not have been included in an application during the mail-in process or part of a stand-by group.

According to Nevada regulations, "Unless their privilege is limited or revoked pursuant to law, any resident or nonresident is eligible to have their name included on one application for each hunt day for which reservations are required. A person whose name appears on more than one application for each hunt day for which reservations are required will be rejected from the drawing. "

During the waterfowl season at Overton WMA, an assigned hunt location program will be in effect. Hunters will make a reservation for one of three types of hunt locations -- field, pond or bulrush plot. The specific hunt location will be determined by a drawing at the check station prior to each day's hunt.

NDOW will begin taking reservations for the remainder of the waterfowl hunting season at Overton WMA on October 28, the Monday prior to opening day. Reservations must be made in person (or by a representative) at the Las Vegas or Henderson NDOW offices or at the management area. All reservations, including those acquired through the mail-in application process, must be used prior to reserving another hunt day. The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) protects, restores and manages fish and wildlife, and promotes fishing, hunting, and boating safety. NDOW's wildlife and habitat conservation efforts are primarily funded by sportsmen's license and conservation fees and a federal surcharge on hunting and fishing gear. Support wildlife and habitat conservation in Nevada by purchasing a hunting, fishing, or combination license. Find us on Facebook, Twitter or visit us at www.ndow.org.
