Report Date:
http://www.theflyshop.com/streamreport.htmCurrent River Conditions: Conditions are improving on the Klamath this week. We are enjoying cooler nights and that's helping the water stay cool. last Saturday's rains brought fish into the upper sections of the river near Iron Gate. Water conditions down around Happy Camp are back to normal and fishing great. Steelhead can be found up near Iron Gate, but don't be surprised if you get into a zillion small salmon and steelhead smolt and zero adults. It's still early folks. Better fishing is found near Happy Camp.
The Fly Shop's?? Tips: October caddis nymphs are a good choice right now. Although real October Caddis hatches are a few weeks off, these cased aquatic insects start crawling, migrating to the edges of the river, getting into the best position to hatch come mid to late October. Skating big dries like Paulson's Titanic, Ska-Oppers or Darth Skaters is a very popular method during the early days of Autumn when the steelhead are most aggressive and curious.
Fly rods from 6 wt to 7 wt are perfect in lengths of 9' to 9.5'. Switch rods are popular and make casting very easy. Spey rods fit in well on the Klamath river.
