http://www.fishingvideos.comSam Patella docked his American Angler at Pt. Loma Sportfishing July 24 after the five-day Sport Chalet/Berkeley trip, with Brad LeMoine as chartermaster. There were 26 anglers aboard.
"Today we had one thing on our minds," wrote Sam on July 21, "and that was Albacore. We devoted the day to being on the fish when it popped up and that's just what we did. This area of fish has been moving up the line 5 to 8 miles a day which is a great thing for the local fleet, but there are just a couple of windows of time when these beautiful grade of Albacore come up the surface and you better be in striking distance."
Bob Falkenberg of San Diego won the jackpot for a 48-pound yellowfin. He caught it in 15 minutes, he said, on a sardine and a 3/0 Mustad hook. He fished with 30-pound Big Game line on a Sealine 40 reel and a GRUSA 70 H rod.
Scott McKay of Pt. Loma was second for a 41.8-pound albacore, and Dan Fischer of Agoura Hills won third place, for a 41-pound longfin.
