http://www.fishingvideos.com"He fought real hard for 20 minutes," said Robert Galloway of Palmdale about the first-place yellowtail he caught aboard the Qualifier 105 with skipper Joe Crisci. "He weeded me."
The rig tied up at Pt. Loma Sportfishing August 8, after a five-day trip to Cedros Island.
Galloway said he fished a sardine on a 3/0 Mustad 91450 hook, and used 30-pound pink Ande line on an Avet MX reel and a Calstar 800 M rod.
Jim Panek of Lancaster was second, for a 35.8-pounder, and Brian Coleman of Corona was third, for a 35.2-pound yellowtail.
"We fished at Cedros and offshore on the way down," said Crisci. "We had sweet weather at the island, but it got bumpy, up to 15 or 20 knots, on the way back. The average yellow weighed about 30 pounds. All methods took fish. We made mackerel and they bit those, too. Jig fishing was very good; just throw it toward the fish and hang on!"
