There were a couple of large though ineligible tuna. Bill McBain of Mt. Shasta got a 109.8-pounder on the kite, and Laurence Lucas of Canal Fulton, OH found a 117-pounder, for which he needed a bit of help.
Russ Snow of Carlsbad won the Rollo Jackpot for the biggest yellowtail with a 43-pounder he bagged with a sardine on a 3/0 Gamakatsu hook, 30-pound Izorline on a 332 Newell reel and an unknown make of six and a half-foot rod.
Jim Fujitani of Roseville won first place for a 91.6-pound tuna. "He took me around the boat one and a half times," said Fujitani, who said he fought the beast for 45 minutes. "I couldn't move him the last 20 yards for about ten minutes."
Jim fished a sardine on a 5/0 Eagle Claw hook, with 40-pound blue Izorline on a Penn 4/0 reel and a Seeker 6465 Black Steel rod.
Fred Meyers of McKinleyville was second, for an 83-pounder, and Carl Antonovich of Palos Verdes won third place for a 70.5-pound yellowfin tuna.
