Welp, Fall is definitely here - lots of leaves changing color - the Pelicans are flying south for the winter - a bit cooler temps - chipmunks stuffing their cheeks - and the days are getting shorter and shorter - yup, Fall is definitely in the air and it's coming in hard and fast. And the Lake is slowly starting to drop.
Catching was slow for most this past week - not sure if it's the bright full moon or the remnants of Hurricane Norbert, but a few did get some quick limits. Almost sounds like the Inlets got fished out as trolling and drift fishing did a bit better. But if you have to fish the Inlets, you might try NightCrawlers or PowerBait. Fishing with lures and NightCrawlers along the shore or rock piles was working if you were trolling and drifting around the rock piles and shoreline between the two natural lakes. Shore fishing
Carson Dunham (age 8) of Palmdale caught her first fish and quite a fish it was weighing in at 2 lbs. Amber Aguillard of Anaheim landed a nice 2-3/4 pounder using the tried and true Sierra Gold. It was a NightCrawler that lured a 3-1/4 Rainbow to Peter Fry of Oceanside set-up. Tom and Penny Feeney of Hemet stringers totaled 6-1/2 pounds of Rainbows caught on NightCrawlers and PowerBait. And Jared Smith of Parcher's Resort caught and released a beaut of a bow!
It's going to be a bit on the wet side on Monday and then drying out and warming up as the week goes on. Temps are expected to be in the low-70s for highs and in the low-40s for lows. DON'T FORGET YOUR JACKETS! You can also check out www.weather.gov - enter Aspendell, CA (which is the little community right below Lake Sabrina) in the search field and you'll get the forecast for the higher elevation or take a look at Howard Sheckter, our local weather 'guesser' report at www.MammothWeather.com.
Remember the sunscreen, ponchos and dark polarized glasses. The glare off the water is tough on the eyes. And if you have allergies - PACK YOUR MEDS. It's tough breathing out there for some - what with runny noses, stuffed noses & watery eyes, believe us, we know!
One other important item - bug juice, hand sanitizer, sunscreen, cologne, perfume, or any other foo-foo juice is like a fish repellent. If you use any of these items you're basically using fish repellant, and will need to wash your hands, then apply Bite-On fish attractant or rub your hands in worm dirt or pour some Salmon Egg juice on your hands... anything to get the foo-foo stink off your hands.

The leaves are a'changing - there's spots of yellow, orange and reds starting to show in the canyon and every once in a while you'll get the smell of Fall - yup, believe it or not Fall does have a smell - crisp and clean. Had the Eagles, a Great Blue Heron and an Osprey out on the Lake fishing this week - sure is awesome to see them soaring around the Lake. No bear sighting recently. It was another......

A bit of wind, a dip in temps, shorter days, a spot of color here and there, a lack of children during the week - could it mean that Fall is just around the corner, but first, the last holiday weekend of summer - Labor Day and the Eastern Sierra Tri-County Fair. Fishing this week was on and off - saw some nice stringers leaving the Lake and some not so nice stringers. If you're not catching fish, come on......
