Reports were hard to come by this past week, due to the lack of anglers. The rental fleet was able to tie into a few cats, although most fish were on the small side. It was last known that Santa Cruz Bay was the place to be, and now the shoreline directly across from the marina has been producing as well. Cut Mackerel or crawlers fished in 10' of of water was the way to go for Matthew Sanders of Northridge, who caught and released several kitties last Saturday and Sunday. The bass bite has been almost all smallmouth on main lake points very early and late, with rip baits and traps both producing. There have been reports of shad up tight in Johnsons, and Cachuma Bay if you want to try to dip some. Other than a couple of incidental crappie, all other species were no shows.

Cut mackerel and doughbaits fished in 1' to 10' of water is the key to success. Both largemouth and smallmouth bass chasing shad on main lake points in the early morning and late afternoon hours. Spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and ripbaits were the top lure choices. A few crappie coming off the docks to the right of the marina,......
