"We had two days of excellent fishing on albacore," said Jack, "with some fish on the troll and the rest on bait or plastics on the slide. The fish were from 20 to 30 pounds, mostly.
"We brought 50 loaner outfits aboard and they were all used for the whole trip. We gave away a few reels, too. We'll do this one again next year."
Mark Case of Huntington Beach won first place for a 41.2-pound yellowfin caught at Guadalupe Island.
"I got him after a long soak on the anchor," said Mark. "He bit way back there and he hit hard. I had a loaner outfit and got him in 15 minutes That 665 two-speed was sweet and I used it on all the species we caught."
Case said he used a mackerel on a 4/0 Eagle Claw hook, with 60-pound Seaguar fluorocarbon leader and 60-pound blue Izorline on the Accurate 665 reel and a Calstar 665 rod.
Rick Cha of Cerritos was second, for a 38-pound yellowfin, and Tom Pansini of Huntington Beach won third place for a 35.2-pound albacore. Chartermaster Nilsen posed with the winners.
