Captain Billy Santiago Jr. parked the Royal Polaris the morning of November 3 at Fisherman's Landing following a ten-day trip with 34 anglers aboard. The ship's internet report for October 29 read as follows:

"The weather today was picture perfect. We had a slight breeze to keep the warm temperature cool, and flat seas, to keep everyone healthy. Our morning started out a bit slow, but as our day progressed, things started to look like Christmas. We had an excellent day of Dorado fishing on kelps. Most of the Dorado were in the 15 to 20 pound class, with a few smaller one's and few larger ones.

"Big D was getting ready to gaff a big female Dorado, then a big bull came from under the boat and bit the gaff. That's dinner for tomorrow night. The big bull was the largest for that stop. But as time goes on, so did our excellent Dorado fishing. We did have a mix of Wahoo in the batch. We ended up with 26 Wahoo in the 35 to 50 pound range. We are now headed back to the ridge to try our luck on some Yellowfin tuna and Yellowtail tomorrow."

Melanie Stewart of Garden Valley was on her first fishing trip ever, as a birthday present from her husband, and she got a couple of wahoo on sardines. She posed with the larger one.

John Ma of Pacific Palisades was also on his first long range trip, so naturally he won the jackpot, for a 57-pound wahoo. He said he hooked it on a gold Raider with yellow trim. He used 50-pound fluorocarbon leader tied to 80-pound Spectra on a Trinidad 40 reel and a Calstar 765 L rod.

Tim Whelan Jr. of Aliso Viejo was second, for a 54-pound wahoo he got with a blue and gold bomb, and Neal Cooke of Ft. Collins, CO took third place for a 49-pound wahoo, a fish that bit on a sardine sunk to 100 feet on a two-ounce sinker.
