John Wilson of San Clemente caught the best albacore of the year to come to a San Diego long range boat. The big longfin weighed 51.4 pounds, and Wilson got it while fishing aboard the American Angler on a six-day Ken's Custom Reels trip. Wes Cougan was the sponsor on board.

Lori Patella of the Angler took the photos of the catch September 30, and provided the information. She said Wilson got the fish with a "hot-rodded" Pro Gear 545 from Ken's. The other two jackpot fish also came on Pro Gear reels.

Nic Hess of Oceanside won second place for a 36.6-pound albie. Dick Brown of Oceanside won third place for a 36.2-pound albacore
