Clarity, Excellent, about 12 ft. and improving.
Surface temps nearing 60 degrees by mid day.
Aquatic insect hatches continue in both basins.
Fishing boats are scattered all over, most of them are on the east side.
Trollers in the Big Springs area reporting multiple hooks ups early off fast action shiners, while others are slow trolling crawlers or smelt patterns..
Browns in the 3 pound-plus class reported by several boats... However the AFA fish cages in the Hamilton Branch which are holding approx. 50,000 Eagle Lake rainbows are now being emptied. About 5,000 will be released every other day. I expect a lot of these smaller fish to move into Big Springs and down the east shore. Big browns are now in the Hamilton Branch chasing these rainbows as they try to escape to open water.
Rec. 1 to the A-Frame also reporting limits or near limits, with a few Rainbows near 5 pounds reported.
Canyon Dam area, Red Banks to the Snag will have boats on anchor suspending baits, like crawlers and anchovy tails for salmon.
Solid limits of quality fish up to 4.6 pounds while most are 3 pounders.
The salmon are the best fighting fish at Almanor.
The Snag area will hold Almanor’s 3 and 4 year old kings for the next 2 to 3 weeks, or until the cedar trees start releasing large amounts of pollen.
