It doesn't get much better at Shaver Lake than it is now. Kokanee, rainbows and browns are the the main stars at the lake right now and multiple limits are the norm.

Dick Nichols of Dick's Fishing Charters said that his clients have been banging out limits per angler all week and he doesn't think it will change soon. "Right now we are catching kokanee at multiple depths, from 17 to 60 feet down", Nichols said. "We are catching more on the side poles at 17 to 20 feet deep than the down riggers". That means that for those who don't have down riggers you can get into the action using weighted Mountain Flashers or simply led core line. Nichols has had good success this week with the Captain Jack's Double Spinner Super Hoochie on the down riggers and Trout Busters tipped with corn and crawler on the side poles.

The big rainbows popped out this week with several trollers reporting catching trophy fish to 5 pounds this week. Nichols clients have scored two trophy rainbows and a few browns to 16 inches on the last two trips out. A nice 3 pounder was caught by Montana resident Elaine Spina who fished with her brother Jim Burgess of Visalia and dad Dr. Fran Burgess of Hanford. Together they picked up three limits of mixed fish.

Local regular trollers, Joe Beck and Dan Pronold, both from the Shaver area, easily picked up multiple limits of kokanee on a trip out this week as did other trollers using various tackle.

Bank fishermen are doing well on fresh plants from the road 2, Point and Edison Campground using Power Bait or crawlers. Shaver was planted heavy two weeks ago.
