Shaver Lake continues to kick out quality kokanee to 14 plus inches and several trophy sized rainbows. Dick Nichols of Dick's Fishing charters said that his clients and others are finding great success in limiting on kokanee and trout. The kokanee are moving every day or so causing trollers to move to new locations where schools of fish can be found. The trophies are here and there, mainly when you do not expect them. Nichols clients have picked up 3 nice trophies this past week as did Kingsburg angler John Goodson who picked up a 5.2 rainbow while trolling. Depth and tackle are the secret for success Nichols says. "One day we picked up 3 limits in one location and the next day, no one was at home in that area around the island. We moved to another location and easily picked up 12 fish in an hour", Nichols said. Many others are doing it too. Nichols is finding success on orange Apex, captain Jack's Super Hoochies tipped with corn and Trout Busters, tipped with corn and crawler, behind Mountain Flashers. He said that most of his fish have come from 17 to 32 feet deep with an occasional kokanee at 50 to 60 feet deep. The Point has been great as some of the areas around the dam and road 2 point. He points out that other anglers are having success on a variety of tackle.
Bank fishermen are having fair success with planters and an occasional trophy around the Point, roads 1 and 2 and Dorabella Cove. Power bait, Gulp! and crawlers are doing the trick from the shore.
Good weather is on the horizon and many fishermen are expected at the lake this summer.
