Some of the best kokanee fishing in some time was found at Shaver Lake until last Thursday. It then slowed a tad, but is still productive. Dick Nichols, of Dick's Fishing Charters, said that the dam and Sierra Marina areas were outstanding for most of two weeks for quality kokanee to 14 plus inches but the bite diminished a little starting Thursday. Limits are still possible in the area. He has been fishing down at 60 foot deep with orange Apex's with a tip of corn behind C.J. Dodgers putting his clients onto as high as four limits each trip. Nichols fished 9 straight days with success each day, but had to move to another location and relocate a right depth to finish out his clients limits. He says that more trophy trout are showing up as evident by two five pounder caught this past week. Ryan Pearlstein of Fresno bagged a beautiful five pound rainbow while trolling. As did Andrew Land. Both checked their fish into one of the SLTTP official weigh stations at Ken's market . Nichols clients on Friday picked up a nice 4 pounder in the same area where Pearlstein fished.
Most kokanee troller are doing quite well and are finding kokes at various spots on the lake and different depths. The dam area needs a 60 foot drop with the down rigger , but near Eagle Point only 38 feet is needed.
Bank fisherman are scoring on planted rainbows using Power bait or crawlers. The point, road's 1 and 2 and Edison Camp areas are doing the best.
